For much of the year Greenfield Retreat Center lives up to its name. It is most definitely green. Soon, however, as autumn deepens, Greenfield’s 500-acre forest undergoes a spectacular transformation: all those trees turn various shades of red, orange, and yellow. (We’ll post some video and photos in a future entry.)
Meanwhile— we are happy to report—Greenfield is undergoing another beautiful transformation. It is, most definitely, growing. Still! Ever since the new chapel opened just one short year ago, more and more devotees are finding their way to Greenfield. Every week sees new faces as devotees from near and far arrive to meditate together and take in the benefits of spending time in this sacred space.
Retreats Overflowing
Growth was very much in evidence at our most recent retreat (September 25-27) for both men and women. Some 75 devotees from 14 states attended—NJ, FL, PA, NY, CT, MA, NC, SC, GA, TN, CA, MD, TX, and, of course VA. We even had visitors from Denmark and Costa Rica. One man mentioned driving 12 hours to get here. Many devotees are regular attendees, but quite a few were new to Greenfield.

This retreat was led by two monks from California—Brother Shantimoy and Brahmachari Leon.

Offerings included classes on divine peace; long meditations, featuring techniques review; energization exercises; chanting; and satsang (answering questions submitted by attendees). An evening commemorative service celebrating our revered param-param Guru Lahiri Mahasaya’s Mahasamadhi highlighted the weekend.

Silent Retreat Speaks Volumes
Greenfield nuns and devotee volunteers prepared and served simple vegetarian breakfasts and lunches.
During a silent retreat like this, attendees enjoy the powerful vibrations of meditating together with like-minded devotees, checking out offerings in the new book room, and simply wandering the beautiful Greenfield grounds.
Please note: If you’re planning on attending a future retreat at Greenfield, consider signing up well ahead of time. Recent retreats have been filled to capacity.
